Denotative And Connotative Analysis of Artrocker Magazine

Denotative
The title of the magazine is written in a bright dominant red, it is at a slant with the main ‘A’ in the Artrocker logo. The image is of a 3 person band took from a low angle with a large skyscraper narrowly behind them. The title of the band is in a large bold red font, it is attached to the line of the banister they are leaning on. At the top of the page there are 5 words describing basically what the magazine is about in a small basic white font. The website is mentioned below the main title of the magazine in a small red font, there is a small slanted writing of ‘free mp3’s inside’ it is above the title of the magazine. There are 5 other features of the magazine mentioned on the right of the cover, they are in a white serif font with a transparent black background.  There is 6 more features at the bottom of the cover in a smaller white serif font. The barcode, price, date and issue are small at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Connotative
The Artrocker font is rugged and scratched to imply individuality and originality. The bright red is there to attract attention as it is a dominant colour. The title of the main featured band is larger than the title of the actual magazine because the magazine is meant for people who are really interested in music and should be more interested by the band than they should be by the magazine name. The hair of the laid figure of the band is covering his eyes implying his shyness but his individuality from other people. The text colour is sampled from the middle member of the bands jacket, it is taken from that because it is the most dominant colour in the photo.  The sky scraper is in the photo because it is symbolising that the band is aiming for bigger and better things.
